I invite sitters to my home studio, an intimate setting where the sitter is allowed to be truly seen, and to simply exist, for an hour in time. We may sit in silence or we may talk about hopes, fears, and daily life. For some sitters, this experience is our first time meeting. For most, it is their first time allowing themselves to be perceived by a painter, where their preconceived notions about their exterior transform into shapes of imaginative color and life. Painting people allows me to dissolve the ego into relationships of color, shape, and form that are unique to the moment -- there is no planning; each painting decides for itself how it wishes to develop.
